April 18, 2024 — The SIGMA 500mm F5.6 DG DN OS | Sports has been named Best Super Telephoto Prime Lens at the TIPA World Awards 2024 alongside the SIGMA 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary for Best APS-C Wide-Angle Zoom Lens.
The 500mm F5.6 DG DN OS | Sports lens is the second lens to utilize SIGMA’s new OS2 optical stabilization algorithm — the first being SIGMA’s 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS | Sports — for up to 5 stops of stabilization, and marks a key step in innovation for SIGMA towards developing their previous line of HSM lenses designed for DSLR into new and improved mirrorless counterparts. SIGMA’s 500mm F4 DG OS HSM | Sports lens was a flagship telephoto option that came in at a hefty 116.8oz, while SIGMA’s new 500mm F5.6 features a significantly improved weight of 48.3oz (L mount) for a more “hand-holdable” super telephoto option.
As a Sports line lens, the 500mm F5.6 is entirely dust and splash resistant, comes supplied with a cover-type lens hood, as well as a removable Arca-Swiss compatible tripod socket. With the Intelligent OS ideal for panning and shooting movement, the 500mm F5.6 is designed for high action photography scenarios.
This lens is currently available for both Sony E and L mount systems.
