ITHACA, NEW YORK — Sigma pro photographer David FitzSimmons will lead a weekend photo workshop in Ithaca, New York, on October 8 and 9 in conjunction with Cornell Outdoor Education. The two-day event will teach beginning and intermediate photographers to capture the majesty of waterfalls and fall foliage with classroom and field sessions, all focused on the spectacular landscape surrounding south Cayuga Lake.
The hills in and around Ithaca are a favorite destination for the photographers year-round, but the landscape comes alive in the fall. FitzSimmons asks, “What better place is there to capture the golden colors of autumn than the countless waterfalls surrounding the lower end of Cayuga Lake?”
FitzSimmons believes that the region around Ithaca has “more waterfalls per square mile than anywhere else in the lower 48 states.” So participants will travel by van to a variety of locations to capture flowing cascades, foliage covered cliffs, and misty morning scenics. “Ithaca is vibrant this time of year, with maples, oaks, and hickories set off against spectacular hills and cliffs,” says FitzSimmons. Besides photographing at famous Cornell Plantations, participants will travel to a number of local state parks.
FitzSimmons has been shooting New York waterfalls for over a decade. Some of his images have appeared in international publications, including Outdoor Photographer and calendars by industry leading BrownTrout.
